Relay for Life at Mendota Lake

Relay For Life

It is time for Relay for Life fundraising to get ready for the big 2 day event at Lake Mendota on July 14th and 15th.  We will have our Stonecroft bus going to and from the event so residents can be a part of all the activities.

For those who aren’t as familiar with Relay for Life I will add some information.  Here at Stonecroft, residents, families and staff have all been touched in some way by cancer.  We like to take this opportunity to give back as a community and celebrate life. We will have our community bake sale on June7th.

What is Relay?

  • Overnight relay-style event
  • Teams of people camp out around the track
  • Members of each team take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event
  • Food, games, and activities provide entertainment and fundraising opportunities
  • Family-friendly environment for the entire community.

Survivors Lap- Relay starts with a survivor’s lap an inspirational time when survivors are invited to circle the track together and help everyone celebrate the victories we’ve achieved over cancer.

Luminaria Ceremony- After dark, we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease.

Fight Back Ceremony- A personal commitment to save lives by taking up the fight against cancer is made.

Mother’s Day Event

We have a great Mothers day celebration planned for 2:30 Friday May 11th.  All our ladies are welcome to come and enjoy some fancy desserts and fellowship. We ask the ladies to bring pictures of family. Any family pictures past and present. Jan has a great activity planned for the pictures and memories.  I have seen pictures of the desserts being created for the event and my mouth was watering.  It will be a great chance to celebrate the mothers and grandmothers we love!

Perfect Survey from IDPH

We are very excited to announce the results of our recent IDPH state survey. Every two years the Illinois Department of Public Health surveys assisted living communities to assure they are in compliance with public health regulations and accepted standards of practice.

The Department of Public Health conducted a survey at Stonecroft Village on Wednesday, March 28th.  We received a perfect score from the surveyor which means Stonecroft is 100% compliant with all regulations.

Congratulations to our whole staff for all their hard work and dedication to making Stonecroft Village the employer and residence of choice here in Mendota.

Busy Spring at Stonecroft Village

Stonecroft has been very busy with many visitors and families this early spring. I think this great weather has everyone out and enjoying the fellowship here at our community. We have also had several birthday celebrations and have enjoyed seeing community members and out-of-town guests joining in on the fun.

The local seniors are going to enjoy an Easter basket our craft group will be creating for Meals on wheels to deliver. It is great that the residents can stay involved with all seniors and senior interests in the local community.

Tina Fitzgerald, from Mendota Community Hospital,  will be coming April 10th at 7:30 am to check blood sugar and blood pressure for any resident that is interested. She will return on April 11th to do a presentation on  high blood pressure and the effects it has on the heart  We really enjoy Tina’s programs and her commitment in keeping us informed and healthy.

Spring ahead at Stonecroft!

It has been such a mild winter. We have had many sunny and unseasonably warm days. We at Stonecroft have decided to start planning for some early spring activities.

Jan will be starting a garden group to start the planning and designing of our decorator pots and vegetable box gardens.  We have many experienced gardeners and creative people here so let’s see what we can do.  If you just like being outside and enjoying the good weather this will be a great time for everyone.   Watch the calendar for more information and please give Jan any ideas and input you have.

Stonecroft News and Views

March is said to be the month of luck as the leprechauns have a hand in it. Perhaps we will be lucky enough for the little guys to melt the snow and dry up the mud!  We are all getting spring fever around the community so be ready for a great month of activities and fellowship here at Stonecroft.

On March 5th we have the big, “Euchre for beginners” workshop. If you have ever wanted to learn how to play Euchre and join the big tournament, this is a great chance to get started.  The tournament for the experienced players is in the afternoon on March 5th. Everyone is welcome to play, watch or learn some techniques.  This is a big favorite and a big crowd of fun!

We had a great community pancake breakfast in February and now have the date for March. Monday March 19th from 7am to 9am. Please invite friends and family to join us. We always have plenty of great food for all.

We will also be having a St. Patrick’s Day happy hour event on March 14th. Come join in the music and all the great Irish foods.

We have a lot planned for the coming months so watch your calendars and let’s enjoy an early and healthy spring.

February….a busy month!

February has been very busy here at Stonecroft!

We have had some great events for the “Kiss the Critter” fundraiser.  Our bake sales have been a great success thanks to all who helped out.

Sandy Mann was the winner of the 50/50 raffle.

All the proceeds from all the events go to support our local Mendota Area Senior Services programs. We are so lucky to have such great services right here in our community.

The community bingo event was a great success. Everyone invited friends and family to enjoy the fun, food, and fellowship.  I have already had many requests to schedule another so watch the calendar.

February Fun

It is almost February and here at Stonecroft you can already feel the excitement! The Kiss the Critter fundraiser activities are well underway.  Don’t forget the 50/50 raffle. All proceeds go to Mendota Area Senior Services.  If we raise the most money Nancy Bogle will get to “Kiss The Critter”.  So, lets do it and make her kiss a skunk!

Our Community is  working on valentine crafts that are really brightening up the winter months. There are definite artists in our midst.

On February 20th we will be having our big community bingo event.  We will have great door prizes and plenty of snacks so come join the fun and bring a friend!

Happy New Year!

Another year has passed and as we say goodbye to 2011.  My wish for you is to have a year full of health, happiness and new experiences.  We are planning a year full of friendship and laughter here at Stonecroft.

We would like to thank each and every one of you for the many cards, treats and well wishes that were sent to the staff this Christmas!

I wanted to share this with you…I had a staff member  thank me for hiring her.  She said “thank you” for giving her the opportunity to be a part of “this”.  For me,  it reaffirmed  how wonderful working and living at Stonecroft Village is.   We are not just here working or living but we are a part of something wonderful-The Stonecroft Family.  Our devoted staff enjoy coming to work everyday to see the residents, their families and their co-workers.  They want to make a difference in someone’s life and they certainly do.  I thank all the residents for choosing Stonecroft to be that place you call home and welcoming the staff into your home.

Happy New Year!
